Sebamed Clear Face Cleansing Foam- REVIEW!

Its been ages since my last post and i feel like i have missed so much from the blogging world. Anyway, I'm back and while i was MIA i have accumulated a whole lot of products to be reviewed.
Today il be reviewing a very popular cleanser, the Sebamed Clear Face Cleansing Foam.
Sebamed Clear Face Cleansing Foam is a mild cleanser that helps in keeping pimples, blackheads and other skin impurities under control. It claims to effectively penetrate the pores to provide deep cleansing. It contains Panthenol that supports the regeneration of the inflamed skin. The cleanser has a pH value of 5.5 which helps in stabilising the acid mantle of the skin to keep it healthy.

While i love this cleanser to bits, if you wear make-up, you cannot use this alone to cleanse your face.  I like to use a stronger cleanser first to take off all that gunk out of my face (like Olay Clarity for combination skin). I pat my skin dry and then apply a squirt of this foam on my damp face and leave it there for around 5 minutes after which i wash it off.
While i was away,   i was having a bad skin moment. Following a bad reaction to one of the facial treatments, my face broke out into clusters on the forehead, temple and chin area.  Sebamed Clear Face Cleansing Foam really helped me calm the skin down and though i would not claim that it totally cleared my acne it did help in combating its growth. Its almost like it retarded the growth of the acne and is now slowly clearing it away. It does not strip your skin off its oils and infact is hydrating.

Will i re-purchase?

Of-course. Anything that helps me with acne will always find a place in my heart.

Real Techniques Powder Brush -Review

          Its been over a month since my last post and i finally found the time to write this long pending review. Its just that so much has been happening lately in my life that i just couldn't find the time to write a post.
           Today il be reviewing another brush from Real Techniques and this time its powder brush. Summer is here and its that time of the year when it becomes imperative for me to set my makeup with a powder brush to keep the slick at bay.

The Brush

For me the bristles of a makeup brush is the most important aspect. The brush can be all fancy and pretty to look at but its the bristles that do the job so it has to be high quality to deliver results. This powder brush does just that. It is a big round brush with fluffy bristles that feels soft and pleasant on the face. Because of the size, two or three strokes covers my entire face and sets my makeup nice and even. Just incase you guys are wondering, i set my makeup with Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder

 Final Verdict

The brush claims to have ultra plush synthetic bristles that are hand cut and 100% cruelty free. Below is the difference in head sizes of then powder brush and my Real Techniques Blush Brush.

I love Real Techniques Brushes and heart this one too. It does its job brilliantly and im more than happy with it. I have washed it a lot many times and the rush hasn't shed even a single hair. At $10 if that is not outstanding quality then tell me what is?! MUST HAVE!

Tomorrow i will be leaving for a two week vacation to Delhi, Manali and Bangalore and im super stoked. I plan to raid Sephora and get my hands on as many things as possible. I also have my eyes on some Bobbi Brown foundations that i have been wanting since forever. I just hope that the Delhi heat doesn't kill me!

My Night Time Skin Regime

I havent done a post for a long long time but anyone who has worked in the Banking Sector will know what the month of March feels like. Financial year ending is literally a pain in the ass. I started having backaches, headaches, eye irritation.... all the deadlines, last minute assignments, stress didn't help the situation either.
Now that it has all ended well, i want to forget about all about it like a bad dream. Thanks to my night time routine that i have been following religiously, all that stress caused only a few minor breakouts here and there, nothing serious.

Cleansers

I use a couple of cleansers depending upon how my skin is feeling. When im having a major break-out moment going on, i tend to use the Saslic face wash which is basically a medicated facewash with 1% Salicylic Acid. Its a great cleanser which comes as a liquid in the bottle but is dispensed as a Foam (magic eh!) It does not dry your skin out and is great at preventing future breakouts.

Cetaphil cleansing lotion is my other go to cleanser. I know beauties all over the world are fans of this performer in a bottle due to its gentle nature. I love how mild it is and how it leaves the skin soft and moisturised.

Next in line is Olay Clarity fresh cleanser for oily/combination skin. This is a super foamy cleanser that i use when i have to take off a lot of make-up. 

I would also like to mention here that my other favourite cleanser is the Loreal Go 360 • Clean Anti-Breakout Cleanser (NOT SHOWN HERE). I love the  scrublet that comes with it.

Toner

I dont use a toner at night and instead of it, after cleansing my face, i use Avene Eau Thermal Spring Water. It feels like French luxury on your face...lol. Read the full review here .

Serum

Remember the iherb haul that i had done here and how was i ranting because of the crazy customs i had to pay. Well i have been using these two serum daily at night before going to bed and i have mixed feeling about them.

Mad Hippie Vitamin C serum - As the name suggests, it is a Vitamin C serum. We all know the benefits of Vit C to the skin right. This serum is super light in texture and smells citrusy. It disappears in the skin within seconds and leaves skin super matte.. almost too matte. It provides no hydration what so ever... i wish it did though. Its a little too drying for my liking and im oily skinned mind you. I havent seen it brighten or lighten my blemishes so im not sure i would repurchase this one. 

Earth Science Active Age Defense - Well what can i say... we just cannot escape old age can we? I wanted to take precautionary measures and therefore use an anti ageing products to keep fine lines well at bay. This is an anti ageing+anti break out (yes, im killing 2 birds with one stone here ) product. I hate using physical exfoliants on my skin and therefore i opted for a chemical exfoliant instead. This has both alpha as well as beta hydroxy acids in it so i thought it would be a win-win situation for me. No kidding that this contains acids. It stings during the first few days of application. It broke me out initially but i guess i was just purging. Yes it peels your skin off and you can actually see it. Every few weeks i give my skin a break from this serum just so that it doesnt get used to it. Please remeber that using alpha or beta hydroxy acids on your skin makes it extremely sensitive to the sun so a good sunscreen is your best friend when you use this serum.

Bio Oil

I slather Bio Oil on my stretch marks before i go to bed. But since summer is already here where i live, i don't think i can use this anymore for very long. Read my full review on Bio Oil here

Supplements

I used to take Biotin supplements till a few weeks ago until it cause me to break out. I gave up on the biotin supplemets because i didnt see much of a difference on my hair and nails and was instead causing breakouts, it went straight to the dustbin. I have been taking Cod Liver Oil for the past god knows how many years now. Some doctor suggested it to me for healthy eyesight and bones... and it is also good for the hair and skin so why not?!!

So this is my night time skin routine. While i do love some of the products, i dont know for sure wether i will repurchase a few. However, following this routine has definitely improved my skin and i do not break out as much as i used to. I will update any changes in my routine.

Avene Thermal Spring Water - REVIEW

I watched "12 Year's A Slave" yesterday and how awesome is that movie... totally deserved all the Oscar's it received. Also its amazing how Lupita  Nyong is just a movie old but was totally killing it on the Red Carpet this award season. I feel in love with her powder blue Prada Gown.. she totally owned that gown.
Anyway, getting back to business, today I'm reviewing the "Avene Thermal Spring Water". For those of you who don't know, Avène is a unique French dermo-cosmetic brand dedicated to each level of skin sensitivity; from sensitive, intolerant to allergic.

The Product

I purchased the small 50ml version for Rs.540/- because i wanted to test it out first before splurging on a full sized bottle. It comes in an elegant white spray pump bottle that works in the same mechanism as a deodorant/anti-perspiration spray.

While some people may think that spending 500 bucks ($9) on a tiny bottle of water is crazy but it has end number of uses which makes this water precious. Some of its uses listed are as follows:

• after shaving
• rash
• after make-up removal
• post surgery
• during travel (especially in flights)
• after sports activities
• damaged skin
• redness of the face
• after hair removal
• sunburn

Interestingly, i recently had a mishap with my epilator and my skin was inflamed and raw and was burning like crazy. I sprayed this over the affected area and it instantly calmed the skin and reduced the redness and inflammation. 

It is said that Avene Thermal Spring water is no ordinary water. It is bacteriologically  pure, has low mineral content, and has a large variety of anions and cations and trace elements. The 2 to 1 Calcium/Magnesium ratio makes it exceptional among dermatological thermal spring waters and may explain its skin healing promoting action. 

I love how the spray works. Now, i have use facial mists in the past and all they do is splatter/ squirt water on your face. This one however, works wonderfully. It sprays a super fine mist of the thermal water on your face evenly without splattering unevenly. To increase the skin cooling properties, i pop this in my refrigerator and the effects are blissful.

While i wouldn't say that my skin has improved or make any tall claims, i simply love how the mist feels on my skin. It also seems to hydrate my skin.
This is not an absolute must have in your make-up kitty but one that will come handy especially during the fast approaching hot, humid, summers (cringe).

Will i repurchase?

Absolutely. I will buy the full sized one once im done with this one. My skin does deserve some tender love and care.

Real Techniques Stippling Brush- REVIEW

Sorry for Missing in action for a long time. A sudden surge of laziness took over me and even though i had tons of reviews pending, i just kept procrastinating. Anyway, diving right into business, im reviewing the Real Technique Stippling Brush today. Now my love for the Real Techniques Brushes is known by all. They are all of fantastic quality and are really really affordable and im so glad that this brush does not disappoint.

The Brush ($10)

The stippling brush is similar to the other Real Technique brushes and comes with a pink aluminium body with a rubberised bottom that can stand up on your dressing table. It feels well made and doesn't reflect its meagre price at all.

The Bristles

It is a dual fibre, ultra plush, synthetic brush that boasts of creating air-brushed, high definition results with all types of make-up. 

As you can see from the pictures that the brush is made up of two kinds of bristles. First there is the longer white bristles and the shorter black bristles. The longer thin (white) bristles are thinly arranged while the shorter, black bristles are densely packed. This is what makes the stippling brush perfect for applying sheer coverage foundation, blush, highlighter or powder.
I love using it for applying Highlighter though. The reason being, the white bristles pick up the perfect amount of product (coz we all know what happens when we go overboard with highlighters..Shiny Disco Ball) while the shorter, denser bristles nicely buff the product into my skin giving me the perfect glow.
The bristles are stiffer than other brushes which makes the buffing action easier. However, when i first used the brush, i was over enthusiastic with it and ended up scrapping way too much product. After that day, I'm more gentle while using this baby.

Final Verdict

Another gem by Samantha Chapman. What can i say, she truly understands the woes of a girl on a budget who refuses to compromise on quality.

Matrix Biolage Normalizing Shampoo Review (Best Shampoo for Oily Hair??)

The past few days has been so cold where i live that all i wana do is curl up in my bed, drink hot coffee and watch T.V. ! Anyway, i dragged myself from bed and to do this review that i had been longing to do. Today im reviewing Matrix Biolage Scaltherapie Normalizing Shampoo (jeez such a long name).
As i have mentioned in my earlier posts i have great difficulty dealing with my hair issues. I have fine hair with very oily scalp and extremely dry ends. So when i use shampoo's for oily scalp, the ends of my hair bear the brunt and become all the more dry and frizzy. To combat my dry and frizzy ends when i use a hydrating/moisturising shampoo, my scalp goes crazy and starts pumping out oil by the bucket. This is one battle i will never be able to win... sigh!!
So lets get on with the review, shall we?!

Claims of the shampoo

Matrix Biolage Scalptherapie Normalizing Shampoo balances normal to oily hair. Formulated with a Botanical Complex of Ginkgo Biloba, Lemongrass, Pollen and Sage fused with special purifiers which deeply cleanses the scalp without drying the hair.

Sounded like just what i needed.

Packaging (Price $14.40 for 250 ml or Rs.888/-)

I first thing i noticed about the shampoo was the pricing and i did not understand it. While 200ml of any Matrix Biolage Shampoo's never ever cost more than Rs.195/- in India i don't know why this particular shampoo was so highly priced in BeautyBay.com . I tried finding this shampoo in India everywhere, in and out, but for some reason it is not available here. I had no option but to order it from BeautyBay.com for 8 times the price...sigh!!

The shampoo comes in this regular plastic flip top bottle..... we all have seen the Matrix Shampoo's at some point of our lives right! Nothing special to write about.

Ingredients

Here is a snap shot of the list of ingredients in the shampoo.

Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cocamide MEA, Sodium Chloride, Parfum/Fragrance, Sodium Benzoate, Linoleamidopropyl PG Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Propylene Glycol, Salicylic Acid, Coco-Betaine, Disodium EDTA, Citric Acid, Limonene, Hexyl Cinnamal, Tocopheryl Acetate, Coumarin, Linalool, Butylphenyl Methlyproprional, Benzyl Alcohol, Hydroxycitronellal, Amyl Cinnamal, Salvia Officinalis Extract / Sage Leaf xtract, Cucumis Sativus Juice / Cucumber Fruit Extract, Chamomilla Recutita Extract/ Matricaria Flower Extract.

SLS is definitely there but then there are a few ingredients that looked interesting like Salicylic Acid, as we all know that Salicylic Acid is a beta-hydroxy acid that helps with oiliness.

Product

The shampoo itself is a clear gel with a thicker consistency than the usual shampoos. I liked the fact that it was clear because it meant no build-up that would weigh my hair down. 

The shampoo has a nice, mild floral smell but sadly the wonderful scent doesn't last very long. Not a major problem though. It lathers pretty well and only a small amount of product is required.

To be honest, in the first few applications, i was rather disappointed with the shampoo. It didn't seem to help my oily scalp at all and just a day after washing my hair, i would wake up with greasy hair begging to be washed.

At this point, i normally chuck the shampoo in my dustbin but for some weird reason i decided to continue using it (divine intervention!!??) and boy did i make a good choice. After around 3 weekes of usuage, i suddenly noticed that my hair was softer shinier and healthier.... and I'm talking about my dry and unhealthy ends. As for my scalp, its virtually oil-free and as fresh as it could get on the second day of the wash. On the third day, there is a tiny amount of oil but nothing that a wee bit of baby powder cannot take care. By the fourth day however, washing the hair becomes necessary. 

About a month back, i could not have imagined that it was possible to not wash your hair for 3 days. 

Im glad that i don't have to wash my hair everyday and strip it off its natural oils. Before i started using this shampoo i washed my hair around 4-5 times a week. Now i just need 2 washes and my hair has never felt this good.

Final Verdict

I had tried Matrix Biolage Shampoo's earlier but they were all a disaster. I did not have high hopes from this one too, but im so glad it proved me wrong. By far this shampoo has been the most effective at keeping my oily scalp under control and nourishing my dry ends as well.

As for the price, yes its expensive as compared to the other Matrix Biolage Shampoo's (im still yet to slove the mystery why??) but its totally worth it. Considering the fact that i wont have to wash my hair everyday and a little goes a long way, this shampoo is definitely a winner for me. RECOMMENDED!!

My Birthday Weekend!

I celebrated my birthday this weekend and i harboured mixed feelings. Another year, another number added to my age. There is no escaping old age is there? This year for my birthday i took a trip to Manas National Park. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a Tiger Reserve in Assam, India and lies on the base of Bhutan-Himalayas foothills. Spending one's birthday in the middle of the jungle may sound crazy to some but it was one of the most memorable birthday's ever. Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge- REVIEW! (Want a flawless base?)

Today I'm reviewing the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge that i purchased around a week ago from iHerb.com
Now we all know that the blogosphere has been going crazy raving about the Beauty Blender sponge for quite sometime now. I really tried hard but at the end of the day i really could not justify spending INR 1300/- ($20) on a piece of sponge. Its almost like the lovely Samantha Chapman heard my prayers and tadaaaaaaaa..... presenting the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge for less than 400/- bucks ($6).... yes you heard it right, i got it for $6 from iHerb.
But if pitted against the undisputed Beauty Blender, does the much cheaper economical Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge compromise on quality? or will the Real Technique Miracle Complexion Sponge give Beauty Blender a run for its money? Read on!!

Packaging

The Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge (hence referred to as RT Sponge) comes in the basic RT packaging in a plastic box. Nothing fancy but pretty decent.

Product

The RT Sponge comes in light orange colour and is oval or egg-shaped as opposed to the tear drop shaped Beauty Blender. When the sponge is dry, it is smooth but not very soft nor very bouncy as i had imagined it to be.

While the Beauty Blender Sponge is basically a tear drop shaped sponge, I loved the fact that the RT Sponge was differently shaped and was multi dimensional. It has a a flat surface, a pointed edge and a rounded side which aids in different types of application.

EYEKO Skinny Liquid Eyeliner- REVIEW!! (Easiest way to nail the Cat-Flick)

I have been sporting cat-flicks/winged eye liner almost everyday for the past one year. Crazy i know, but then i love the way it instantly lifts my otherwise droopy eyes. I also find it much more glamorous than just drawing a line across your eyes..lol!
Today im reviewing the Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner that i purchased from beautybay.com. I had never used a felt pen eyeliner before so this was a new experience for me.

Packaging (Rs.1000/-for 2ml)

The eyeliner comes in this silvery-grey pen form. The packaging is pretty decent ... Nothing to write home about.

Product

The pigmentation of the liner is awesome. It is one of the most pigmented blacks that i have come across. I have been a Maybelline Gel Liner user all my life and was pretty happy with it until i came across Eyeko. The finishing of the Eyeko liner is glossy and dark that puts the Maybelline one to shame.

Also the tip of the liner is of perfect length...neither too long nor awkwardly short, its just right.
Because of the sharp tip of the Eyeko Skinny liner, it is so easy to draw precise lines which is difficult to do with a brush. Also you can easily layer with the liner for thick or thin lines and it doesn't flake like many others. Drawing cat-flicks has never been easier... the pointed tip of the eyeliner gives you so much control that it almost like drawing on paper... :)

iHerb Haul- Real Technique + more ( Indian Customs-Rant!!!)

I always squeal with joy when a package arrives at my doorstep. I get some sort of an adrenaline rush because despite the fact that numerous packages of mine have been lost by the postal services, i remain obnoxious and continue shopping online.
I received my recent order from iHerb.com and i was more than thrilled.... however, my thrill lasted only a few seconds when the delivery guy handed me a hefty custom duty receipt. When i saw the bill i was literally like "No f******* way!!"
The total value of my package was Rs.4600/- ($73.10) and the custom duty charged was Rs.3000/- ($47). Now isn't that preposterous?? That is almost like  61% of duty charged. I think its crazy and i was so angry i could have punched the delivery guy.... but then it was not his fault and i had no other way than to hand over the cash and collect my stuff. So what had actually been a haul of Rs.4600/- ($73) ended up costing me Rs.7600/- ($120)....arghhhh!!!

When i opened my box, my anger some what dissipated after looking at the products. I had waited several months for this haul because some of the products were out-of-stock and i had to wait and wait for iHerb to restock. Here is what i purchased.

Bio Oil- Does it really work?? REVIEW!!

Today im reviewing a new product that I have been using for the past one month that some claim to be magical. Im talking about the oh-so-popular Bio Oil that has found huge fans in the celebrity circle. Celebrities like the flawless Kim Kardashian, ex-Spice Girl Mel-B, actress Alison King to name a few have raved about it and swear by it to banish stretch marks and other skin imperfections. Pregnant women all over the world have found a new BFF in Bio Oil to prevent and erase stretch marks.

Is it really that magical or is it just over-hyped? Read on for my experience on the Bio-Oil.

Packaging (Rs.450/- for 6ml )

Boi Oil comes in this cute sturdy transparent bottle with a white cap. I like the fact that the jar is transparent as it is easier for you to know that you are running out of the product and need to restock soon. It is travel-friendly as you can pop the bottle in your travel kit and I promise it will not spill.

Peter Thomas Roth- Mega Rich Shampoo- REVIEW

On my recent haul from beautybay.com,  I was sent this tube of Peter Thomas Roth Mega Rich Shampoo to try out. As I had mentioned in my hair care regime here, im always on the lookout for that “PERFECT SHAMPOO” for my hair that controls the sebum production of my oily scalp but nourishes my dry and damaged ends (..i know, that’s a hard task!). I was more than happy to receive the Peter Thomas Roth Mega Rich Shampoo sample because I had heard many good things about the Peter Thomas Roth products but had never tried any product of the brand.

So lets get on with the review shall we!

1.     Packaging (Price 21$ for 8 fl oz or Rs.1300/- for 235 ml)

The shampoo comes in this military green coloured flip top plastic tube that is easy to use. Nothing special or fancy… a rather serious looking packaging if you ask me but then it serves the purpose of dispensing the product well.... so what the hell. I couldn't help but notice that the shampoo is marketed as "Clinical Hair Care".

Currently Crushing- Tulip Skirts!!

I know that Tulip Skirts have been around for quite sometime now and i absolutely adore them. There is something fun and sexy about the skirt that is unexplainable. 

Im loving this striped one below from modusoperandi.com though its a lil' out of my budget and currently out of stock too .. (sadness!!)

I would have loved to pair it with a crop top and some killer heels!!

the Balm- Bahama Mama Bronzer REVIEW!!!

Im probably a lil’ late but let me begin by wishing all you beautiful people out there a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year 2014!!

I welcomed the New Year partying with my friends and then woke up the next day with a massive hangover… but I think most people wake up that way on Jan 1^st…. lol!!

Today il be reviewing The Balm- Bahama Mama Bronzer that I bought last month. I was in search of a good bronzer since forever but I was so particular about the kind I wanted that I never seemed to find one. I hate the way foundations make the face too even toned, in a bad way (read, Edward from Twilight!!) and bronzers add some human colours to my face and give it some dimension.

I zeroed upon Benefit Hoola and The Balm-Bahama Mama as both had all the qualities I wanted but The Balm was a lil’ reasonably priced so I went with it and bought it from feelunique.com

Packaging (Rs.1365/- for 7.08 gm)

I have always loved the quirky packaging of The Balm products including my Holy Grail highlighter The Balm-Mary Lou Manizer that I have reviewed here. 

Bahama Mama comes in a uber cute cardboard box case that opens and shut with a distinct magnetic click. The packaging is perfect for a clumsy person like me who is constantly dropping and cracking plastic packaging. The case also comes with a reasonable sized mirror which comes really handy for touch-ups. It does not come with a brush which is ok with me.

Mini Ben Nye Haul!!

This is a quick post on my recent mini “Ben Nye Haul”. Girl, if you haven’t heard of Ben Nye you need to be punished. Ok im kidding :p

 I had been wanting to try some Ben nye products since forever, but since availability is a big time issue here in India I could not get my hands on them (read sadness!!). I rummaged the internet inside out and came to the conclusion that in India it was available only in Mumbai through a physical store. My other option would be to get it shipped from U.S.A.  I then begged, yes literally begged one of my colleagues who had a friend in Mumbai to in-turn beg his friend to send me the products... the things we do for vanity…sigh!! 

Anyway, everything went well and I got the products yesterday and I was so excited that I tore open the package and started swatching the products while I was still at work…… Good thing my boss was no where around.

I did a mini haul from this website called SOULFLOWER and its safe to say that im totally obsessed with the website. The website is quirky and fun and i love surfing the site just reading about the products even if i am not buying anything ( i do get jobless at times :p )

The website sells aromatic essential and carrier oils along with handmade organic soaps that are 100% vegetarian. Sounds so much like our very own LUSH!!
